Agnès b., simple and chic.
Agnès b. can be seen as a symbol of Parisian cool, timeless fashion whose secret is its simplicity which allows everyone to express their personality. Ethical and freedom-loving, the brand proposes collections of ready-to-wear, bags and accessories that very quickly won over the fashion world, especially Asia.
From a first shop in Paris to conquering Asia.
Agnès b. takes its name from its founder, called Agnès Troublé, who was formerly the wife of famous publisher Christian Bourgois, which explains the small "b" in the company's signature. Once an editor at Elle magazine in Paris, she who "prefers clothes to fashion" finally decided to embark on a career as a designer. In 1975, she opened her first ready-to-wear shop in an old delicatessen in the Les Halles shopping centre. Made up of simple clothes and softer, more feminine pieces, the Agnès b. collection had no problems finding favour, going on to open a boutique on the other side of the Atlantic five years later, in the cosmopolitan district of SoHo in New York. One project followed another for Agnès. The 80's saw the opening of the first menswear boutique, the creation of a line of childrenswear and the conquest of the Asian continent where, points of sale rapidly multiplied.
The brand also creates numerous fashion accessories, together with a collection of small leather goods and bags, most of which come in neutral tones, with a few forays into colour. Agnès b. is invariably overridingly simple lines and the choice of luxury materials – codes we also find in the design of her shoes whether they are flat calfskin lace-ups, lace-up boots or leather ballet pumps.
Mix and match pieces that will never go out of style.
Planning on steady growth, Agnès b. is a family business that manufactures its products mainly in France and selects its suppliers as much for their working conditions as for the quality of their materials. Today, over a hundred boutiques throughout the globe represent the label, known for its models with clean lines, aimed at all generations and which come in men's versions as well as women's versions. Composed of timeless pieces with pared-back styling, to be mixed and matched according to one's moods and desires, the Agnès b. wardrobe blends classical and urban inspirations enabling everyone to express their individuality.
By taking inspiration from the jackets of the XVIIIth century with buttons that were very close together, Agnès b. created the press studs cardigan, which she likes to reinterpret with each new collection. Another iconic piece, the striped Agnès b. T-shirt is made of the same cotton as is used in the confection of rugby shirts. Today, it comes in various colours and with different types of stripes. Lastly, the Agnès b. jumpsuit is also one of the items that customers can't get enough of, whether we're talking about the flowery playsuit or the solid colour long version.
