Converse X Play Comme des Garçons, an unexpected collaboration.
The world of fashion can reserve a surprise or two for unsuspecting customers and come up with unexpected collections and collaborations. That is the case between the Japanese brand Comme des Garçons and the American label Converse. The first was invented by the talented Rei Kawakubo, a designer who specialised in clean-cut, minimalist pieces. In Comme des Garçons, she created a brand which went against the flow of fashion's established code system. As for Converse, its story is very different. The company is older, its beginnings going back to the year 1915 under the stewardship of Marquis Mills. The ambience is more sportswear, focusing on the creation of canvas sneakers. In a little over a century, the shoes have revolutionised the world of fashion and they can now be seen adorning the feet of generations of all ages. The strength of Converse is that the designs can be adapted to suit men as well as women and a variety of different styles.
Everything there is to know about the collaboration between the two brands.
Back in 2009, the first joint collection by Comme des Garçons and Converse came out. The two brands designed high and low-top sneakers which combined the codes of each label and gave rise to truly original results. The classic Converse shape remains unchanged. However, as for the colourways in this instance, we find black or white backgrounds in homage to the Japanese brand. Polka dots and hearts also feature, along with Converse's famous star logo. These sneakers aim to be simultaneously simple and graphic in order to appeal to a very wide shoe-buying public.
Unisex designs to seduce women and men alike.
The collaboration does not differentiate between shoes for the males and females of the species. Each re-edit of a design is a big event and stocks tend to sell out in a flash.
The footwear category on our platform is especially popular. The range of styles and prices is amazingly wide and varied, to meet everyone's different expectations. As for the famous collaboration between Converse and Comme des Garçons, it gave birth to designs for men and women, the success of which is still resonating to this day:
