The rise of the Belgian designer.
In the Van Noten family, there was a passion for couture and fashion that was passed down from one generation to the next. Dries Van Noten began his career as a freelance designer. In 1986, with five of his peers, he formed a group of designers, called the « Anvers Six », and launched his first ready-to-wear collection for men in London. The designer's reputation extended well beyond the Belgian borders and prestigious names the world over expressed an interest in the avant-gardist and highly original collections of the young Belgian prodigy. Characterised by a chic, Bohemian spirit, the profusion of colours and refreshing originality of Van Noten's designs proves captivating.
Dries Van Noten pays particular attention to decoration and accessories. He finishes off his ready-to-wear looks with bright scarves, outsize jewellery, feminine bags and belts with precious details. Dries Van Noten leather goods are marked by the famous "envelope" clutch, that he tweaks each year by using different materials and new motifs.
Thirty years of audacity and refinement.
Dries Van Noten established himself in fashion with his highly colourful collections and his pronounced love of different materials. In 2006, when he opened his first boutique in Paris, in the 6th arrondissement, the shop's interior decoration was in keeping with the brand's image. He played with contrasts, mixed up the old with the new and created a perfect setting in which to showcase his designs. In 2009, his brilliant career was rewarded when he received the international award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Thirty years after his very first collection, Dries Van Noten celebrated his 100th collection in February 2016 by organising a fashion show that took the form of a retrospective.
