Jimmy Choo, the king of heels.
Considered to be the master of stiletto heels, Jimmy Choo made his mark on the world of fashion with a meteoric rise, enchanting women from across the globe with his dazzling and luxurious vertiginous heels. A look back over the story of the English fashion house adored by shoe addicts everywhere.
From London to Hollywood.
A product of the encounter between Jimmy Choo, the son of a Malaysian shoe manufacturer who had settled in London, and Tamara Mellon, fashion editor at Vogue UK, the eponymous brand came into existence in 1996. The shoemaker's creations were already gracing the feet of London's finest, including Diana, Princess of Wales. His talent was well-established, but he dreamt of an international career. To that end, he proposed a partnership to a young journalist with an impressive network - he would design, she would sell. Within a few months, fashion lovers became enamoured and stars couldn't get enough of the English label's models. The brand's reputation reached its peak when Sarah Jessica Parker, alias Carrie Bradshaw, wore Jimmy Choo stilettos in the TV series Sex & The City.
In 2003, having successfully conquered the world of footwear, the British fashion house decided to invest in other markets: fashion accessories, glasses, and above all, leather goods. It now therefore offers a range of handbags, clutch bags and purses in the same vein as the shoes: luxurious, glamourous and more-often-than-not made to match the famous heels. Jimmy Choo's DNA can be found in the sumptuous choice of materials, the fine finishings and also in the hues and original ornaments, as demonstrated by the iconic bags Rebel, Lockett and Raven.
A brand much-loved by stars.
Today, it is not unusual to see the shoes made by fashion house Jimmy Choo on the feet of Natalie Portman, Sandra Bullock or Michelle Obama, to name but a few. Queen of the red carpet, the English brand is currently run by Sandra Choi, the niece of its iconic founder. The latter has been multiplying prestigious collaborations for the past few years - with Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, amongst others, but also with major ready-to-wear labels like H&M. After launching a line of footwear for men, in 2012 the brand reissued its iconic models of sandals and heels, named Greta, Brigitte, Marlène and Veronica, as a tribute to the legendary actresses.
Dazzling, elegant and luxurious, Jimmy Choo models have succeeded in winning over fashionistas around the world. Worn as you would wear actual jewels, the label is continuously revisiting its products, although there are key pieces Jimmy Choo loves bringing out year after year, including:
