Dear Collective,
We're reaching out today to share something really close to our hearts.
As you know, Vestiaire Collective is on a mission to change the fashion industry for a more sustainable future. We've put all our energy for almost 15 years towards that mission, and wanted to thank you for being instrumental in making that journey possible.
Today, we need you more than ever!
In a few days it’s gonna be Black Friday again, a moment in the year where consumption will skyrocket, especially of fast fashion. That's the moment we have chosen to start a movement and to ask consumers to 'THINK FIRST, BUY SECOND'. We invite you to be a part of it.
Last Black Friday, we announced a 3-year plan to progressively remove fast fashion brands from our platform. This year Vestiaire Collective will remove 30 brands, including H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, Mango, Gap, and more.
Why are we removing fast fashion brands from our platform?
Every year, the fashion industry produces 100 billion garments. Zara and H&M alone produce more than 1 billion garments per year. As we consume more and wear less, 92 million tons of textile waste is discarded on a yearly basis - most of it coming from fast fashion brands. This is enough to fill the Empire State Building every day, and has a major environmental and social impact.
Why is the second-hand business model better?
Every time you choose a pre-loved item on Vestiaire Collective instead of buying a new one, 90% of the environmental impact is avoided. This is why we want to raise awareness of the importance of buying fewer, better quality fashion items.
To support our claim, we’ve created a short video where we ask all fashion lovers to 'Think First, Buy Second(Hand)’.
It would mean a lot if you could share our video and tag @vestiaireco with the hashtag #thinkfirstbuysecond.
Our planet will thank you!
With love,
Fanny & Sophie
