VC: Why have you decided to sell on Vestiaire Collective?
MK: They say that your environment is a reflection of your state of mind. I seek to attain is state of efficiency, organisation and zen both mentally and physically and this is only achievable through the decluttering of my wardrobe and parting ways with some of my beloved items.
Vestiaire Collective presents me with the opportunity to find my pre-loved items a second home. And what better time to do this than now.
VC: Which one is the most precious item that you own?
MK: A red mulberry bag. I bought it with my first pay check so it reminds me of that milestone i.e. My first step into the corporate wold and taking that phase of my life on, fashionably.
VC: How do you know that you are ready to say goodbye to an item?
MK: I would say that I’m juggling between being an emotional hoarder and a practical user. While I’m big on sentimental value and tend to associate clothes, books and scents to specific memories, I will also measure an item’s value based on how often I use it. When an item I have hasn’t gotten much use, and I don’t feel much of an emotional bond to it, I know that I’m ready to say goodbye.
VC: What’s the item you’ll never sell?
MK: Oh, no! It’s really difficult to just pinpoint a single item that I’ll never let go of. There’s quite a few sentimental items that would really hurt to say goodbye to. If I had to pick, I would be torn between the vintage Louis Vuitton that my mother used when she first started off on her career and the wedding shoes which I had custom-made by Gianvito Rossi for my wedding.
VC: Top tip for organising your wardrobe?
MK: I think having a wardrobe that is categorised by colour is definitely the most effective way to make everything look streamlined and neat, but I find it quite challenging to arrange all my pieces by colour. Instead, to maximise space in my wardrobe, I like to organise by length and height. I’m a big maxi-dress fan, so I have one section dedicated to my longer dresses and other sections for crop tops etc. I do the same thing for shoes, arranging them by heel height so I can adjust the shelves accordingly and make use of every inch of space in my wardrobe.
VC: Why have you decided to sell on Vestiaire Collective?
CW: I’ve always believed and did my best to be environmentally friendly in ways that I can manage within my means. One of which is to give new life to my wardrobe by reselling them or donating them. Especially after having kids, leading a more sustainable lifestyle has been more important to encourage them not to waste and also to encouraging upcycling and recycling
VC: What’s the item you’ll never sell?
CW: Anything that Roy (my husband) has ever bought for me.
Especially these 3 items:
1) The first gift he bought me for Xmas in 2004. A perfume.
2) My first owned branded bag. A balenciaga bag which he knew I wanted so much and he emptied his savings.
3) My engagement ring which he again emptied his savings for the whole proposal plan, the ring, getting my family members to be there in Kyoto.
VC: Which one is the most precious item that you own?
CW: My engagement ring
VC: Any tips on detoxing your wardrobe?
CW: Start with your party outfits and work your way to your work wear, day-to-day wear and home wear. And cheesy as it sounds, I’ve been going by the Marie Kondo method of whether I want to keep it like 90% of the time.
