Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion. Her top insider fashion tip? "Never wear more than three colours at once." She's a big fan of Vestiaire and has scored some brilliant items in the past. Here's how she did it...
...shearling and leather coats. I usually invest in one good coat a year and they're a big trend for AW23; in premium fabrics they’ll age well. I’m after a brown '70s style, like a Saks Potts shearling cuff coat or a Rixo suede patchwork coat. I’m always on the lookout for a great designer piece that’ll last me for seasons to come, the ultimate investment. To justify the price tag, I always look out for classic styles that will go with my existing wardrobe.
...about whether they’re something I’ll see myself wearing for seasons to come, and if they can be worn with at least three outfits I already own. This season, I’ve got my eye on Loewe’s Puzzle bag, a best-seller for the past few years, or the Luna bag, a relatively new addition with a timeless hobo shape. I’m keen to dress up this party season, and I’ve worn my black By Far heels to death so I’d love a new pair. I wouldn’t mind a sparkly pair for party season though, and I know Aquazzura and Amina Muaddi always do fun, modern styles.
...It’s kind of cheating because they come as a pair, but the Olsen twins, because they’re impossibly stylish and I love everything they design for The Row. I'd add Naomi Campbell for epic fashion storiesand finish with Princess Diana: Her style was just impeccable and I love how she bent the royal fashion rules.
...to always check the We Love section as it’s an easy way to find those must-have items if you’re a bit time poor. A few years ago, I found a Toteme Scarf coat. I was desperate to wear it to fashion week and it was sold out everywhere, but I managed to nab it just as it went up for sale and it arrived with a day to spare.
