Mara Hoffman’s Archive Sale
To celebrate Climate Week, we’re partnering with acclaimed designer Mara Hoffman to sell her archive and support fashion circularity.
Founded in 2000, Mara Hoffman’s namesake label is synonymous with its sustainable framework that aimed to reduce fashion’s environmental footprint through innovative design practices, responsible materials, and more. The label closed earlier this spring after 24 years in business, shedding light on the continued challenges of responsible fashion.

Behind Her Pieces
“This is a curated edit with some of my favorite gems from the past few collections. From coveted collector pieces to some of our core staples that support a wardrobe for a long time. Almost all of the pieces are NWT from my secret stash that I put aside to offer fans of the brand who missed them while they were available. 2 exciting pieces are the red and pink Sloane, as well as the embellished Luisa dress. Both styles sold out super quick when they were originally introduced, so I’m really happy to bring them back!”
Sustainable Design Initiatives
“We’ve done so many incredible partnerships and initiatives over the past 10 years that I’m proud of. For example, when we launched our USA-made regenerative wool sweaters (the Julia, available in our sale). Or when we introduced our swimsuits made from Pyratex, a Tencel Lyocell that replaces the traditional and harmful polyester relied on by the swim industry (shop the Lucia and Gigi). Both were big feats that took an incredible amount of work to bring to market.”
On Her Personal Style
“I definitely enjoyed the ‘perks of my job’ and having access to all of the collections I designed. I’ve never taken for granted how special it is to have so many options at my fingertips.
I’ve always been a uniform dresser. I’ll wear the same 4 or 5 pieces on repeat for months (or years) at a time. For the most part, if I’m not wearing MH, I’m in vintage. My go-to has always been vintage Levi’s and men’s button-downs. In fact, a lot of my most treasured pieces are ones I inherited from my father’s closets throughout the years. I love his shirts from the 70s and 80s, as wearing them makes me feel closer to him.”

Most Meaningful Career Moments
“Two really stand out to me. The first being when we made the decision to overhaul the entire company and transition to a sustainable framework 10 years ago. And the other one was when I finally came to the decision that closing the brand was, in fact, the most sustainable and responsible thing I could do for both the planet and myself. I’m so proud of having the courage and deep knowingness to understand and embrace an ending. After a remarkable 24 years in business, it was a gift to be in grace with the ending of a cycle.”
Debunking Fashion Sustainability
“One myth is the idea that any of it’s truly ‘sustainable.’ Until we have fully closed our own loops and figured out total circularity, we’re still just striving for less harm in an already very harmed environment. ”
