After studying, I was working in the industry and felt that there wasn’t a label out there that was right for me. I wanted something timeless, effortless and for a price that reflected the work that had gone into it. Something that I could cherish and keep for a long time and pass on to my children.
It has always really bothered me that fashion is such a polluting industry, and there were times at the beginning that I wanted to give up, but one of my best friends reminded me that to make changes, you need to be in it, rather than walking away. So from that moment on we made a commitment to real change in everything we do.
I try to reduce all the single use plastics I use, from cosmetics to cling film. It just takes a while to get used to it, but then it is fine, we use plates to cover food now, or beeswax paper. I walk to and from work most days, and if not I get the bus, I like the time on my own to clear my head before I get into work. Again, it’s not an overnight change, we’re trying to do more as time goes by, so it doesn’t feel so difficult all at once.
The values and ethos of my brand - the idea of creating pieces that I can pass down to my children and creating future vintage - are perfectly aligned with the wonderful message that is at the core of what Vestiaire does. The idea of a circular wardrobe, and being able to buy pre-loved pieces that you can cherish for a second, third or even fourth time is so important, and it’s the opposite of fast fashion.
-Jamie dress: The marigold colour is so uplifting, it’s pure sunshine. It puts me in a better mood just looking at it, and I always feel great wearing it.
