    The Biker Jacket

An essential part of any wardrobe, the versatility of the biker jacket ensures it’s a failsafe investment. This timeless classic is back in a big way, from feminine to full on tough, here’s 3 ways to wear your leather this season.

    Fun and Feminine
The biker jacket creates a modern, feminine silhouette. From left to right: Natasha Goldenberg at Paris Fashion Week, March 2016; The S/S 16 Gucci show; the S/S 16 Louis Vuitton show.

As seen at Gucci and Louis Vuitton, incoorporating embelishment gives heavy leather a bright and seasonal uplift. Alternatively, simply team short dresses, silk blouses and neckties in fun, floral prints. Take inspiration directly from Gucci’s golden girl and accessorise with a beret and oversized glasses for a more modern look.

    Rock’ n’ Roll
Popularized by Marlon Brando, this biker has its roots in rock'n'roll. From left to right: Edie Campbell at Paris Fashion Week, September 2015; the S/S 16 and A/W 15 Saint Laurent shows.

This summer, Hedi Slimane took the biker jacket back to it’s core at Saint Laurent. Slightly oversized and simply teamed with a short slip dress and wellington style boots makes for that perfect amount of dishevelled elegance. Aka Kate Moss at Glastonbury circa 2005.

    With A Twist
In 2016, graphic details are far from incompatible when it comes to the biker. From left to right: Teddy Quinlivan at Paris Fashion Week, March 2016; the S/S 2016 Miu Miu show; the A/W 2015 Loewe show.

Jonathan Anderson and Miuccia Prada’s interpretations proved they’re not afraid to take the classic biker and give it a playful spin making sure to keep shapes very tailored to balance out the graphic details and bold use of colour.
