Fast fashion is fuelling overconsumption and overproduction, and it's the number one cause of our planet's textile waste problem.
We want that to change.
Did you know that 60% of fast fashion items end up in landfill within a year of purchase? It's a major contributor to the 92 million tons of textiles discarded every year–enough to fill up the Eiffel Tower every single day–and the reason we need to rethink the way we consume fashion.
In 2022, we took a stance against fast fashion by announcing a 3-year plan to progressively ban fast fashion brands from our platform. Today, more than 60 brands have been removed from our catalogue.
Eliminating fast fashion from our platform is just the beginning. Through our 'Think First, Buy Second' campaign, we’re focusing on education and community to change consumer behaviour. Plus, we're pushing for broader change by calling on the European Parliament and industry leaders to address textile waste and tighten regulations on discarded clothing and exports.
Fast fashion may seem cheap, but it’s a false economy. Instead, investing in high value, higher quality items is the smarter choice for the planet and for your wallet.
Shopping preloved with Vestiaire Collective has a 90% lower environmental impact compared with buying new. And when we truly value what we wear, we care for it and keep it longer. By choosing quality and extending the life of our clothing, we all become part of a more conscious, circular system.
