At Vestiaire Collective, we believe in the circularity of fashion. We want people to care for their clothes before passing them on to the next fashion lover.

We’re extremely excited to kick this series off with our first partner in Australia: bassike. Deborah Sams & Mary Lou Ryan established the brand in 2006 with the vision of creating luxurious everyday pieces with an elevated design. The very first bassike collection was a small edit of certified organic cotton jersey T-shirts & pants made in Australia, and the brand has gone from strength to strength since then.
What are your community's most-lusted after pieces?
Deborah: bassike launched in 2006 with an organic cotton jersey collection, using a fabrication that was exclusively developed by us to feel elevated and luxurious but was still easy to care for. Almost 15 years on, our organic cotton jersey pieces continue to be a staple in many wardrobes – there’s nothing like finding the perfect white T-shirt.
What does sustainability mean to you?
Mary Lou: For us sustainability means treating people and the planet with respect, reducing our environmental impact and constantly evaluating how we do that. It means producing our collections with intention, integrity and longevity in mind, and we consider sustainability in every part of our business.
What makes bassike truly Aussie?
Mary Lou: The Australian way of life resonates with the way our collections are designed; relaxed with a classic but elevated sensibility. Being Australian-made is also important – every day we work alongside a talented local team who ensure all bassike garments are made with care and of the highest quality, to last in your wardrobe for seasons to come.
What does your dream sustainable fashion wardrobe look like?
Deborah: Quality over quantity is a great first step when it comes to selecting sustainable pieces for your wardrobe. I opt for classic, timeless pieces that you don’t have to think about putting together and that are elevated and chic, but super casual at the same time.
What makes the pieces you're selling with us special?
Deborah: We’ve selected each piece from our archives to reflect our personal style and the timeless nature of our collections, which are designed to work with other pieces in your wardrobe – both old and new, bassike or other. It’s also a great opportunity to get your hands on styles that are completely sold out or were never even sold, with the knowledge that you are contributing to a very worthy cause; all funds raised are going directly to The Mirabel Foundation.
