This Black Friday, we've collaborated with not-for-profit organisation The Or Foundation to share an upcycled, anti-overconsumption capsule collection. Each piece is handmade from garments sourced from Kantamanto, the world's largest secondhand clothing market.
All proceeds from sales of the collection will be shared amongst the Kantamanto community through The Or Foundation's Secondhand Solidarity Fund. Since 2021, the fund has helped members of the Kantamanto Market community to shift out of the crisis mode of daily survival and into long-range planning mode for transformation.
From patchwork denim to hand-painted sets, this handcrafted collection sees unwanted garments that have ended up in Ghana turned into vibrant works of art. Each item has been reimagined by a Kantamanto-based designer and tailor, members of a community of 30,000 people who together are responsible for recirculating an incredible 25 million garments every month through resale, repair, and remanufacturing.
Designs by: Najiha Yahaya, Danny McELL, Richard Asante, Abrokwah Miracle, Patrick Kwakye, The Bhaby, Arow Boi, Kojo Kuntu, and CBI Desk (Nabi Yankey, Jennifer Nanor, Mina Frimpong, and Beauty Dogbey).
Based on the ground in Accra, Ghana, The Or Foundation is on a mission to end waste colonialism and catalyse a justice-led circular textiles economy. The organisation works in partnership with Kantamanto Market to develop new materials and products made from post-consumer garment waste, advocate for meaningful international policy change and brand accountability, lead science-backed research initiatives, and launch new circular business models.
