Today we meet Jack Wang, Group Creative Director of T: The New York Times Style Magazine Singapore and ELLE Singapore and Jenine Oh, Elle Singapore’s Associate Fashion Editor, two of the top fashion editors in the region. They share their most lusted after vintage pieces, and explain why Vestiaire is their favourite place to find these items.
JW: I'm the Group Creative Director of T: The New York Times Style Magazine Singapore and ELLE Singapore. Having been in the industry for over 10 years, I have worked with fashion photographers like Steven Klein, Glen Luchford and Chris Colls to photograph notable A-listers around the world, including Millie Bobby Brown, Kim Kardashian and Christy Turlington.
JO: I’m Jenine Oh, celebrity stylist and the associate fashion editor at ELLE Singapore. Over the course of eight years in the fashion industry, I’ve worked with inspiring creatives like Steven Klein, Glen Luchford and Patti Wilson for cover shoots, and styling trailblazers like Yara Shahidi, Doona Bae and Koki Kimura. The most important lesson I’ve learned is that fashion isn’t about glamour, but empowering you to be who you want to be.
What do you love about being a Vestiaire Collective member?
JW: I love that it offers an opportunity to give my pre-loved items a second chance.
JO: For someone who enjoys hunting for vintage pieces especially from luxury brands, Vestiaire Collective gives me peace of mind while shopping, as all items go through a rigorous quality control process before delivery.
What items are on your wish list?
JW: I would love to collect unique vintage watches, I have my eye on a Patek Philippe Nautilus Yellow Gold Watch.
JO: A Vivienne Westwood vintage corset and an Hermès vintage box ‘sac cordeliere’.
What is your favourite fashion decade?
JW: I love the ‘60s! It was an amazing moment for fashion and men were adventurous with their dressing — I wished we could travel back in time!
JO: For me it’s all about the ‘70s! It’s the era of free-spirited, endless creativity when fashion lovers explored the joy of dressing up, and took their personal style very seriously. It was when women’s tailoring (inspired by menswear) became an instant hit after Saint Laurent debuted the Le Smoking.
With more design houses reinterpreting classic pieces, is there one piece that stands out for you?
JW: I always emphasise the importance of classic pieces that will last you decades, especially today when sustainability is key. It’s our responsibility to buy less and buy better. Prada has been one of my favourite brands since day one, and their Re-Nylon initiative really stood out for me.
JO: The Celine Triomphe bag. I love that it’s minimal yet eye-catching with the Blazon Chaine logo—inspired by the Arc de Triomphe—as its focal point. The Triomphe bag might not have as much streetstyle cachet as a Dior Saddle, but it’s timeless and versatile, so will endure for decades.
