WEDDING WEAR
Wedding season is upon us again bringing with it the annual dilemma of what to wear. Discover our round-up of elegant yet original pieces, plus top tips from bride-to-be Kate Foley.

At weddings do you wear one outfit during the day and another for the evening?
I normally stick to one outfit, and make sure it’s something that can carry me from the ceremony to the dinner and dancing. Most weddings I attend start late afternoon and so I simply wouldn't have time to go back to my hotel and change for the evening, which makes that decision pretty straightforward!

Do you stick to heels or are flats acceptable too?
It depends on the location! I think flats can be elegant and much cooler if it's a relaxed wedding, definitely if it's on a beach or in an exotic location. If it's more of a smart wedding then I’d normally wear heels, I tend to feel more elegant in heels as I'm short!
Ideal outfit for a city wedding/countryside wedding/beach wedding?
For a beach wedding I favor something long and lightweight; I bought a beautiful Saint Laurent floral printed dress on Vestiaire Collective which I've actually worn for both beach and countryside weddings. It worked well with flat, very simple brown leather sandals for the beach wedding and also small heels for the countryside wedding. For a city wedding I normally wear something a little more put together, I have a great Miu Miu pencil skirt which I love to wear with a blouse and a pair of statement heels.

What do you think about wearing jumpsuits and tuxedos?
Definitely! As long as the fabric feels special and the cut is elegant then I think a jumpsuit or tuxedo can be a great option.
What about wearing a white dress when you're not the bride?
I would say no, lots of brides don't mind but I think it's nice to be sensitive and not risk upsetting her!
What’s your opinion on strapless dresses?
Yes it is an option but it shouldn't be too low cut and show a lot of cleavage! Think elegant and understated.

Yes or no to hats?
I would only wear a hat if the invite stated that they’d like hats to be worn. I always find hats difficult and have actually never worn one to a wedding. I would't mind wearing a pretty straw hat to a beach wedding or something cool by Maison Michel though!
You’re getting married this year, what will your celebrations be like?
It’s taking place this July in the English countryside. I want my guests to wear something special that they feel really comfortable in. I’ll suggest that they don't wear stilettos as there will be times when they’ll have to walk on grass which is a bit of a nightmare in thin heels…
The setting is an incredibly beautiful garden that I visit regularly, so pretty floral dresses are a good option. The night before the wedding I’m holding an informal dinner and drinks at my parents house and will be wearing a silk black tea dress with a floral print. The day after the wedding there will be a picnic style brunch by a stream, super informal and fun! I’m wearing a long loose cotton dress for that and sandals.
