Mellow Yellow, colourful, pop-inspired shoes.
With a name borrowed from a song by Donovan, 60's singing sensation, Mellow Yellow couldn't offer anything other than shoes with a bright and colourful vibe. Keen to combine quality with affordability, the brand's creativity has flourished with accessories and bags for women.
From shoes to accessories, to the tune of Donovan.
It was to a lively and upbeat tune, like the song that gave the label its name, that Bruno Van Gaver revealed his first shoe collection in 2003. After working in wholesale distribution, this French expat living in Hong Kong wanted to propose fashion that followed current trends but was available at prices that didn't break the bank. The designer immediately found his identity: extravagant retro models, characterised by curved lines and an obvious dose of good humour. In 2004, after a period at the ready-to-wear salon Who's Next, Bruno Van Gaver opened his first shop on Rue de Turbigo in Paris. Success was on the cards and, gradually, bags, belts and scarfs were added to Mellow Yellow's range of items. Bruno Van Gaver also launched childrenswear collection Minimy, allowing young girls to copy their elders - wearing models with a spirited vibe, like the suede ankle boots, colourful print ballet pumps and T-strap shoes embellished with studs.
Creating designs that are glamorous with a hint of humour, Mellow Yellow offers shoes for women that are good quality and come in a choice of styles. From boots to ballet pumps, leather, velvet and wool adorn the acid-coloured models with zingy motifs. The brand also sells small leather goods, bags and scarfs, and is considering launching Mellow Yellow shoes for men.
Plays on colours and materials.
Today, Mellow Yellow has around thirty shops throughout France, including ten or so in Paris. It's also an offbeat universe where materials, motifs and colours combine in bold and daring new ways. Fruit print slippers, openwork sneakers, sequinned sandals and flat lace-up shoes with a silver sheen have marked the different collections, whose creativity season after season has known no bounds. Numerous models boast outlandish baroque decorations, unusual lines or display a hint of mischief by combining two materials. Mentioned in all the fashion press, it only took a few years for the brand to earn the reputation it deserved... Bringing with it a big breath of fresh air.
Amongst the brand's biggest successes: the Mellow Yellow ballet pumps with curved lines and models with embroidered patches, with a fun motif that runs from one shoe to another. Also worth mentioning are the metallic-look ballet pumps, the Camargue boots and the sneakers, which manage to be comfortable yet fun.
