Antique silk plush top hat ...by Tress & Co, London England, established in 1846 and world renowned for its manufacturing of high quality hats. As seen at interior, this one was made for Ely Limited. It is in beautiful condition. The hat appears to have been worn only once or twice and then stored for many decades—possibly a century—in the box shown in photos.  Size indicated at interior tag is 7 1/4; please note approximate circumference measurements (see measuring tapes in photos) to help determine proper fit.  While this top hat appears to be in nearly perfect condition, there are two areas of wear: see top of grosgrain brim (both sides) where a small area of fading is apparent. All other exterior areas are clean, plush and glossy. The interior leather band still has a slightly supple feel and interior silk at sides and top is flawless.  This hat, personalized "G.P." in perforated letters along the leather band, was purchased in the Christys' Hats box shown in photos; various labels and pencil markings are present on the box. (It was the box itself with its colorful London scenes that initially appealed to me as the buyer). Top hat will be very carefully wrapped in a layer of tissue, placed in its hat box, then carefully packed to arrive ready to wear to special events and celebrations — or simply by to admire.
