Rotary Cushion Case Manual Wind Blue Dial Date Incabloc Swiss Vintage Watch

A thoroughly 1970s Rotary in a bold cushion case, with a deep navy blue dial, applied hollow rectangular indices, and blue-tipped hands — a Swiss manual wind with Incabloc shock protection and date, wearing its decade with no apology whatsoever.

Rotary is one of Britain’s longest-standing watch brands, founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1895 and retailing primarily through the UK market. By the 1970s the brand was producing Swiss-made pieces with a distinctly contemporaneous design language — cushion cases, sunburst dials, and bold geometric indices were all hallmarks of the era, and this example hits every one of them. The brushed and polished chrome case, with its softly squared outline and stainless steel back, is archetypal 1970s design.

The deep navy blue dial has aged well, retaining its rich colour with an even, warm patina. The hollow rectangular indices are crisp and undamaged, and the blue-tipped hands add a colour-matched finishing touch that feels very deliberate. The date window sits at 6 o’clock, neatly integrated into the dial layout. The acrylic crystal has the light surface marks you’d expect from fifty years of daily wear.

Presented on a navy blue leather strap with contrast stitching that matches the dial perfectly. The cushion case wears confidently at approximately 37mm — it has presence on the wrist, but the rounded outline keeps it from feeling aggressive.

1970s Rotary cushion case watches are increasingly collected as well-priced entry points into vintage British-retailed Swiss watchmaking — this example is a handsome, characterful piece that wears its era proudly.
