A Bathing Ape, the embodiment of current streetwear.
The 1990s saw an influential brand appear on the streetwear fashion scene in the form of A Bathing Ape. The brand is often referred to in the simpler abbreviated form of BAPE. This Japanese brand came into being with Tomoaki Nagao, initially selling T-shirts. In terms of inspiration, it is often drawn from films that marked a whole generation like The Planet of The Apes. That is, moreover, the movie that provided the inspiration for the brand's logo. BAPE plays on novelty in terms of colours and the design of its products. The collections are produced in small quantities, which makes consumers want them even more. The label built up its international reputation thanks to collaborations with acclaimed brands such as Converse, Reebok and Supreme. These rare products are only sold online. Pharrell Williams also helped publicise the brand throughout the world when he promoted it within his circle of friends and in his music videos. In 2009, the brand went through a rough patch everywhere. The designer withdrew definitively from the venture in 2013, but BAPE has endured with low-key pieces and limited editions.
Clothing with a style all its own.
The A Bathing Ape style is now instantly recognisable having as it does camouflage print running through most of the pieces. The designer is a diehard fan of the great heroes of our time and they are a source of inspiration in the creation of men's clothing. We can also identify a pop, quirky and colourfully Japanese vibe running through the collections. The label's target is young people who are allergic to taking orders and rigour generally.
