Vintage 70s-80s GIEVES & HAWKES No.1 Savile Row DONEGAL TWEED Blazer Jacket 42L

🧥 The Essence of British Heritage

Step into the world of No.1 Savile Row with this exceptional vintage blazer by Gieves & Hawkes, one of the most respected names in British tailoring, long associated with officers, gentlemen, and the quiet elegance of traditional British style.

This is not just a jacket — it feels like a garment with a past.
Crafted from authentic Donegal Handwoven Tweed, the cloth carries the texture, weight, and character that only old Irish weaving could produce — rugged yet soft, refined yet made to endure decades of wear.

Inside, the original Donegal label even bears the name of the weaver, P. J. Barr, a reminder of the time when cloth was made in small workshops and cottages, each piece carrying something of the maker’s own hand and character.

⸻

The Fabric & The Cut

The tweed is a classic grey herringbone Donegal, enriched with the subtle coloured flecks that make this fabric so distinctive.
Heavy, warm, and beautifully textured, it is the kind of cloth that improves with age rather than wearing out.

The tailoring is timeless and unmistakably British:
• Two-button front
• Traditional notch lapels
• Elegant Savile Row silhouette
• Fully tailored construction
• Reinforced inner cuffs, a detail often seen on well-made vintage jackets

Everything about the piece reflects a period when clothing was made to last, not to be replaced.

This is the kind of blazer that fits naturally into Old Money, Ivy League, Heritage, and classic country style.

⸻

“The Patina of Life” — Condition

This blazer shows honest signs of age, the kind that give vintage clothing its soul.

The outer tweed remains in beautiful condition, with no holes, tears, or visible exterior damage.
The interior lining shows wear from time, including light staining and a small vintage scorch mark — the sort of detail that makes you wonder about the life the jacket has lived.

It feels less like damage, and more like history.
The kind of jacket you imagine hanging in the wardrobe of a country house, worn for decades, kept because it was too good to throw away.

The exterior still looks sharp and elegant, exactly as a Savile Row jacket should.
