Maharishi is a London-based fashion brand founded in 1994 by Hardy Blechman. Known for its commitment to sustainability, the company incorporates natural fibers and upcycled military surplus into its collections.

Blechman began his career dealing in military surplus before establishing Maharishi, which quickly gained recognition for its innovative designs blending sportswear and military aesthetics. In 2000, he was awarded the British Fashion Council’s Streetwear Designer of the Year Award, cementing the brand’s influence in the industry. Maharishi’s first flagship store opened in central London in 2001.

Maharishi’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its use of natural fibers, including organic cotton and hemp. Blechman even pioneered the development of the world’s first waterproof hemp fabric in collaboration with the Italian mill ITS Artea. Hemp, while less commonly used than cotton or linen due to its slightly higher cost, is exceptionally durable—up to eight times stronger than linen—and boasts the longest lifespan of any natural fiber.
