Buttero

Black

Beautiful pair of Buttero mid-calf pull-on boots. Buttero is a Italian brand from Tuscany with roots in equestrian footwear.
Named after the Italian cowboys, the "butteri", who roamed the hills of Tuscany with their horses. Founded in 1974 by Mauro Sani, who set out to make the best riding boots in the world, Buttero remains owned and run by the Sani family: three generations working together to create unique handcrafted shoes.
To my knowledge, Buttero produced some footwear for both Dior (under Hedi Slimane) and Maison Margiela in the early 00's.
The boots are made from buttery soft, yet sturdy calf leather. Adjustable buckle strap at the collar. Wide and round toe (somewhat square-ish). Leather lining in the "sock" (vamp and heel counter), shaft is unlined, making the boot more comfortable and lightweight. The midsole is leather too, but the entire outsole is lightweight rubber - more comfort and better grip.
The soft calf leather shows some creases in the toe area, but the outsole wears none. The boots have been deeply conditioned with the professional "Bick 4" leather conditioner.
