A brand with a unique identity.
The brand Alaïa widely known the world over for the sculptural, feminine cuts of its designs, was born in 1980. Its designer, Azzedine Alaïa, was born in Tunis. He studied at art college before going to work for a couturier and reproducing creations by illustrious designers such as Dior and Balmain for female family members and friends. After the war in Algeria, he moved to Paris and worked with Guy Laroche. After his brand's first fashion show, Azzedine Alaïa was honoured to feature on the front page of the well-known magazine Elle. Success came immediately. In the 1990s, the designer took his foot off the pedal a little and produced fewer collections, deeply affected by the death of his sister. The brand did not follow the fashion season calendar quite so closely. The designer then opened an art gallery and organised haute couture fashion shows.
Collections of inimitably-stylish accessories.
Alaïa women's accessories come in the form of belts, gloves, scarves and hats. Just like the clothing, the designs are adorned with geometrical lines. The designer's aim is to highlight the inherent beauty of women. The designer's favourite colour is black but other colours feature in different creations, thus appealing to customers with a range of different tastes and styles.
What is the brand up to these days?
