The Story behind

For this delicate design, Florence Manlik was inspired by illustrations from a German album of saddlery and buckles from the early 20th century, which is kept in the Emile Hermes collection. The rooster and ostrich feathers recall the splendor of the parades of yesteryear, during which the horses' bridles were decorated with feather arrangements known as plumes. The "tail" decorations made of horsehair complete the ceremonial ornaments of these colorful carriages.
