Kublai Khân conquérant mongol, vainqueur des Song, et qui se proclama empereur à leur place en 1280, a laissé le souvenir d'un despote à poigne. Au dire de Marco Polo il lui arrivait d'étouffer un ennemi dans un tapis. Comme quoi le tapis, dans l'ancienne Chine, avait d'autres fonctions que d'orner les colonnes des temples ou d'abriter le cavalier nomade.Il servait aussi de châtiment dans la main du souverain....
