Chloé bags, for freedom-loving women.
Ever since its creation in the 1950's, Chloé has been an alliance of the exacting standards of haute couture and the comfort of ready-to-wear. The fashion house proposes sophisticated pieces, opting for casual comfort. Chloé's line of bags, developed in the early 2000's, includes models that have since become iconic.
From luxury ready-to-wear to leather goods.
Keen to propose an alternative to haute couture, judging its lines too severe, Gaby Aghion invented a new concept: luxury ready-to-wear. Chloé’s first collection, composed of elegant and casual pieces, was launched in 1952. The cuts and fabrics were chosen to create clothes that fell perfectly on all women, without being made to measure. Chloé's first fashion show took place in Café de Flore, the HQ of Parisian artists and intellectuals. A boutique was then opened in 1971 in the 7th arrondissement. The collections presented were romantic, Bohemian and light-hearted. A style that was very fashionable in the 1970's and that is still the label's signature even today.
Karl Lagerfeld was Chloé's designer of choice between 1966 and 1983. He returned in 1992, his mission being to rejuvenate the brand. At the time, he designed ethereal pieces, characterised by their floaty designs, a concept held dear by Chloé. After the launch of Chloé's first fragrance in 1973, it would not be until the early 2000's that the label diversified with a comprehensive range of accessories. Under the impetus of the young creative director Phoebe Philo, who took over from her friend Stella McCartney in 2001, Chloé distinguished itself through its handbags. Phoebe was behind the outsize Paddington bag, that became the very first it-bag. After taking over from Clare Waight Keller, who had arrived in 2011, Natacha Ramsay-Levi is the current creative director.
Stylish bags, for day-to-day.
Chloé proposes a comprehensive collection of women's bags. We find classic handbags, to be worn over the shoulder or across the body, but also leather clutches to go with evening outfits. There are also the Chloé backpacks and travel bags, including the 24h version of the Paddington bag. These models are ideal for urban jaunts and weekend getaways. Some Chloé bags are adorned with canvas or denim, especially the large capacity versions, even if the brand prefers patent, smooth or grain leather.
Thanks to their touches of femininity and sophistication, Chloé's women's handbags have made a lasting name for themselves over time. Certain pieces from the early 2000's are highly coveted. Of these emblematic designs, the following models are worth mentioning:
