The label Zadig & Voltaire started out in 1997 at the initiative of Thierry, the grandson of André Gillier, the co-founder of the well-known brand Lacoste. He had been immersed in the world of fashion growing up and had also developed a passion for the work of the author Voltaire. He did not, therefore, have to think too long and hard to come up with a name for his company. In the beginning, the brand mainly brought out cashmere sweaters, before the appearance of denim and leather, the decision to enhance the collections influenced by his wife who also had a passion for fashion. The formula was a success straight away and the quirky but feminine look quickly won over a wide audience. As well as clothing, the brand has made a foray into accessories and fragrances. The bags and clutches have now become the flagship pieces of the French label.
