Yves Saint Laurent Silk Brocade Jacket Butterfly Skirt Ensemble Runway, 1989 Incorporating its appeal for international inspiration, YSL mixed Eurasian styles with their usual bright color combinations in the Fall / Winter 1989 collection Mr. Saint Laurent's ability to create world-inspired designs by merging multiple aesthetics into one beautifully articulated garment is a hallmark of the famous designer. From the 1989 collection, this set is crafted from a beautifully detailed silk brocade fabric creating a pattern of whimsical butterflies and flowers in vibrant colors of orange, yellow-green and cherry on a deep ocean blue background serene. The lurex threads give this set an extra majestic feel. The jacket is constructed in a classic 80s style with square shoulders and a tapered sleeve. It sits snug across the bodice and gives a pinched waist which is accented by a voluminous basque which is tied at a slight angle which adds interest to the figure and allows for a more flattering fit. The ankle-length skirt is streamlined to balance the drama of the top. It has a less structured body which allows for a smooth flight. A shocking thigh-high slit on the right revealing the exuberant pink lining introduces a touch of sexy shock to this ensemble. A great vintage ensemble that can be worn true to shape or styled separately for a more modern take, this YSL suit can be seen in the images above on the 1989 runway. : 40 Size estimate: M / L Jacket: Shoulders: 16 inches Sleeves: 24.5 inches Bust: 39 inches [ [2]] Size; Length: 25 inches Skirt: Waist: 26 inches Length: 43 inches The The jacket closes in the center on the front with large translucent buttons in coordinating shades of orange, green and red.
