Dior Vintage glen plaid wool blazer & skirt suit from SS 99 by John Galliano

This Dior 1999 set is one of John Galliano’s earliest use of grey Glen Plaid, a material  he’s had a great affection for, which would go on to become a recurring motif throughout Dior during his  tenure.  

This  light wool fabric coupled with his precise tailoring , features an understated iridescence, reminiscent of an oil-slick sheen, adding depth and dimension to the traditional plaid pattern. The blazer  is adorned with buttons that mirror this iridescent vibe.

Dior SS99 collection drew inspiration from the romanticism of Victorian-era paintings, particularly the works of Lawrence Alma-Tadema, bringing to life a tableau of classical influences with a modern twist. This skirt suit reflects that vision, combining timeless plaid with a contemporary finish, as seen in multiple pieces throughout the runway show.
