The story of two diametrically opposed brands.
On the one hand, we have the Japanese brand Comme des Garçons, with its emblematic founder Rei Kawakubo who has been at the helm ever since 1969. This unconventional label stands out from other brands because it does not take its inspiration from the latest fashion trends, preferring to focus on its own redefined take on standards of beauty and femininity. Clothes here are seen as a means of conveying a message by virtue of pared-down forms. As for Converse, in the world of trainers the American brand is one of the first names to come to mind wherever you happen to be on the globe. Marquis Mills originally founded the company. He made his foray into the sports shoe industry in 1915. In 1932, the name of the famous basketball player Chuck Taylor made its way onto the shoes. The name would end up being forever linked to the trainers, just like the star-shaped logo, which he himself designed. It was back in 2009 that the two brands with, on paper, absolutely nothing in common brought out their first pair of jointly-designed trainers.
An unconventional collaboration which gave birth to a unique collection of shoes.
The collaboration between Converse and Comme des Garçons is a perfect blend of the codes for which the two famous brands are famous, in the form of trainers decorated with a red heart logo. The shoes, which are available in black or ecru versions, are simple, pared-down and very easy to wear. They embody the know-how befitting an illustrious American shoemaker and the graphic, designer appearance of the avant-garde Japanese fashion house. Each season, the designs take on different forms, high-cut or low-cut, plain or adorned with prints. Each reissue is a real event, thanks to the meticulous marketing strategy implemented by the brand.
