Jean Paul Gaultier's wardrobe for men.
The story of Jean Paul Gaultier defies convention because the designer did not actually receive any classic training in fashion. His initial introduction came from his grandmother when he was still very young. When he turned 18, he joined the House of Pierre Cardin and then spent time working with Jacques Esterel and Jean Patou. After spending a few years perfecting his style, Jean Paul Gaultier launched his first collection in 1976. In 1982, he would officially found his own House of Fashion. From the start, the designer has been flying in the face of classic standards of fashion and reinventing himself with each season. The men's clothing follows the same principle and is an integral part of his work.
Non-conformist clothes with a strong identity.
Jean Paul Gaultier loves playing around with the codes and creating what are basically feminine outfits for men and vice versa. In his menswear collections, it is not therefore unheard of to find skirts, dresses and fitted corsets. We can also recognise certain prints which will always be associated with the brand, like the famous sailor stripes. Occasionally, the tone is eccentric and provocative. The pieces which are mono colour and/or prints are designed for aficionados who do not play by the rule book and like creating their own style. The aim is to blur the gender lines and shake up the codes to produce unique fashion with rock'n'roll vibes.
