UGG: the fusion of comfort and luxury.
With designs based on materials and fabrics that have been meticulously selected, UGG products have built up a reputation for offering a level of comfort that is almost unparalleled. Refined and worked by hand, the double-sided sheepskin, associated with high-quality wool, offers excellent protection against the cold. Above all renowned for its brown sheepskin boots the Australian brand also markets stylish accessories, handbags and clothing for women and children.
A world full of softness.
The story began with a must-have material - sheepskin, chosen by surfer Brian Smith who was fond of fur-lined boots for their ability to keep his feet warm after going surfing. Convinced that the footwear could interest the wider public, he decided he would market them. Success was immediate, to such an extent that in 1978, he started exporting to the United States and launched his company, UGG. Initially confined to the world of surfing, the sheepskin boots gradually became a real symbol of culture, also affording protection from the freezing cold.
From big cities to small villages, sports fanatics to high society, they have been adopted by all social classes, and their fur is so comfortable that people even wear them indoors without socks. In 1995, American group Deckers Outdoor Corporation bought Brian Smith's company and the popularity of UGG boots just kept growing and growing. Recognisable by their logo composed of stylised gothic letters, they take centre stage in luxury boutiques alongside more prestigious brands, and impose themselves as an ideal addition to any classic winter look - skinny jeans, a long coat and a wool hat worn with a pair of UGGs create an elegant, pared down silhouette, with a slight touch of nonchalance by virtue of the form of the boots, reminiscent of snow boots, but doted with a much more stylish lining that makes all the difference.
Alongside its collections of boots, UGG also brought out items of leather goods for women: holdalls, shoulder bags, bags with shoulder straps, hobo bags and backpacks. These bags with shoulder straps and closing flaps are made from a mixture of sheepskin, leather and suede. Amongst the key pieces, feature best sellers like the Vivienne Sheepskin backpack, a shearling sheepskin rucksack, with a leather outer and lined with linen. UGG creates elegant accessories for women: wool gloves, hats, headbands, scarves, ear muffs and much more.
Boots that are worn the world over.
It was in the 2000's that UGG boots became a cultural phenomenon in their own right, when celebrities such as the American presenter Oprah Winfrey wore them, raising their profile no end. To feature in their autumn-winter 2016-2017 campaign, UGG chose actress and top model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, whose warm-hearted image and relaxed style convey the brand's spirit magnificently. Photographed in radically different styles, but always wearing a pair of UGGs - mainly the Classic boots, emblematic product - versions of which have been included in five different collections - she imposed herself as an ideal muse for the products that are fashionable yet laid-back. Creative director of the brand, Nicks Ericsson can be proud that his bet - being able to prove that UGGs can be worn on all occasions - has paid off.
The key products of the Australian label include models that are both casual and elegant, proving that luxury and comfort are not incompatible:
