A look back at the story of the House of Dior.
The Couture House Dior was founded in 1947. From when he first started out in the business, Christian Dior, the founder, used his best endeavours to stand out from his rivals thanks to his boundless creativity combined with truly unique know-how. That is how Dior established the solid reputation of the brand. Each design embodies elegance and distinction and makes women in all their beauty look and feel gorgeous, as epitomised by inventions like the New Look. Certain bags have gradually attained iconic status in the collective unconscious. That is the case for the Diorama, Lady Dior, J'Adior and Saddle.
The creation of the Saddle, a legendary bag.
The Saddle bag by Dior was designed in 1999 by John Galliano, who was Dior's creative director at the time. With its unique, very original shape, this design made an immediate and lasting impression on women everywhere. The designer was inspired by the world of horse-riding when he created the bag and its lines are reminiscent of the lines of a saddle. Crafted in collections made of leather, canvas, denim and cotton, the style of the piece is truly innovating. Some versions are mono-colour and pared-down like patchwork or with fringes or embroidery. It is also adorned with a letter "D" in metal, an homage to the famous House and its timeless character. After falling out of favour slightly in 2010, the Saddle found its way back into the limelight thanks to popular influencers like Olivia Palermo, Kendall Jenner and Jeanne Damas.
