Burberry, British class at its best.
The House of Burberry was born in 1856. The ambition of its founder, Thomas Burberry, was to make storm-proof clothes which would stand up to challenging weather conditions. In 1879, he invented gabardine. A patent was filed in 1888. Today, the material still reminds everyone of the English fashion house, and especially its world-famous gabardine trench coat. 1924 was another decisive milestone for Burberry - that was the year when their famous Scottish tartan was created. It has now become their hallmark, recognisable at first glance.
A new image for the British House.
The Burberry label, which had been marked by an incredibly strong heritage, decided to modernise and treat itself to a brand new visual identity. For the first time in 20 years, the logo was completely re-designed in 2018. The very traditional knight was abandoned, and the typography was made more current and pared-down. A new Monogram was created, featuring the entwined initials of the brand's famous founder, TB. Recent lines of clothing for women now feature the new logo but the age-old details the brand is known for are still the order of the day. Black and camel tartan is still a star turn.
