Dinh Van jewels, bracelets for modern women.
"Less is more": nothing could better definethe jewellery brand Dinh Van, which has made discreet audacity its DNA. This iconoclastic jeweller works with metals and precious stones in a minimalist style inspired by the world of design and contemporary art, prime examples being his Menottes and Serrure bracelets.
The man who revolutionised the world of jewellery.
"At that time, decoration, couture and even gastronomy had experienced a revolution […]. Jewellery, however, was still stuck in the age of jewels made the same way as in the previous century. It was confusing, but we felt as though women expected us to give them jewels that were easier to wear. All we had to do was invent them." That is how Jean Dinh Van, a young designer who had just spent 10 years working at Cartier, decided to revolutionise the world of jewellery. In 1965 he opened his own workshop in Paris to create jewellery that was different, more pared down and free-spirited. Over time, the Menottes and Lame de Rasoir collections, as well as the famous square ring found favour with fans of stylish pieces, turning Dinh Van into a key figure in the world of high jewellery.
With its no-frills items that are available in different versions and can even be personalised, the Parisian jewellery house carved out a luxury niche for itself in the precious jewellery sector. Many of the creations are now ranked as must-haves, with designs that are often inspired by contemporary art and more especially the era of Bauhaus. Each piece is inspired by everyday objects, like handcuffs, locks and drawing pins, and numerous designs by the French brand have now attained iconic status.
Cult bracelets.
Designed instinctively, Dinh Van bracelets are among the must-have pieces of our generation. Today, the jewellery house is perpetuating the same techniques that established the reputation of its founder: wrought work improvised directly on the material in hand. Designed in silver, yellow, white and pink gold, with rope or chain clasps, the designs boast basic, understated shapes that give them universal appeal. The label Dinh Van, which broke with tradition and energised the world of jewellery, saw its iconic bracelets become more popular and take their rightful place on the wrists of women the world over. Among its signature pieces, the following pieces hold a special place in our memory:
