Omega is a brand which originated in Switzerland and which specialises in watches. The watchmaker Louis Brandt was initially at the helm of the brand. He founded his eponymous company in 1848. It was, however, a full thirty years before the brand started to sell watches in significant quantities thanks to the impetus of the founder's two sons. In the late 19th century, the brand was one of the leading watchmakers in the country. In 1894, the line named Omega 19 was launched: success came quickly. Sales plummeted, however, as a result of the First World War and the ensuing crisis. In the end, the label merged with the Tissot group and formed the Société Suisse pour l'Industrie Horlogère (Swiss Watchmaking Industry Company). During the Second World War, Omega maintained its position as the leading supplier of watches to the French air force. The brand's reputation reached its peak when it was associated with the lunar landing in 1969. Omega has always vied for ways of being more creative and has become one of the most innovative and successful labels around.
