Ozwald Boateng

Blue

A beautiful pair of original 1990s Ozwald Boateng silk ties, dating from the period in which the British designer was establishing his distinctive new vision of Savile Row tailoring.

The first is an exceptionally elegant pale mint green silk tie, almost minimalist in appearance, with a beautifully clean woven finish and contrasting rich golden-yellow patterned tipping to the reverse. Understated enough for formal or business tailoring, the unusual colour gives it considerably more personality than a conventional plain silk tie.

Condition: good vintage condition, with some signs consistent with age and previous wear visible in the photographs.

The second is altogether richer: a deep electric blue / violet silk tie with a wonderfully tactile, almost mottled finish which changes character as the fabric catches the light.

Most importantly, this example is unworn and retains its original “Bespoke Couture by Ozwald Boateng” swing tag, an increasingly unusual survival on a tie now approximately 30 years old.

Together they make a particularly attractive pair of vintage British designer accessories: one restrained and quietly elegant, the other characteristically bold and luxurious.

Boateng’s work became celebrated for combining the disciplines of classic British tailoring with a much more adventurous approach to colour and fabrication — qualities beautifully represented by these two ties.

Either would add a discreet dash of sartorial individuality to an otherwise conservative navy, charcoal or black suit, while remaining entirely elegant and wearable today.
