Estelle Arpels and Alfred Van Cleef got married just one year before they founded the brand. Van Cleef & Arpels designs are in a league of their own and instantly recognisable. Indeed, from the very beginning, the jewels have been decorated with flowers, animals and/or fairies. That is the case of the famous bracelet called “Contrat de Mariage”, for example, made entirely with sapphires and diamonds. In 1925, it was their rose bracelet, a legendary piece, which would win a major prize at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. In the 1930s, the luxury brand created the minaudiere so that women would have somewhere refined to put their make-up necessities. These high-jewellery creations are the stuff of dreams with their look resembling dainty jewels. It was in 1968 that the legendary Alhambra collection by Van Cleef & Arpels saw the light of day. The famous necklace decorated with clover-shaped pieces was joined by a huge range of similar and matching items: bracelets, rings, earrings and even cufflinks. In 2009, the brand made its foray into fragrances. Two years later, it opened a boutique specialising in watchmaking on the world-famous Place Vendôme.
