The family label Sandro saw the light of day in 1984 at the behest of two sisters, Évelyne Chétrite and Judith Milgrom. Fashion has always held a fascination for these two young women. Their aunt was a seamstress and their grandfather used to work in the shirt trade. It was logical, therefore, for them to turn their attention to the confection of clothing before moving to Paris where they founded Sandro. Given the meteoric success achieved by the brand, an own-name store opened in Paris in 2004. Judith Milgrom went her separate way in 1998 to found her own brand, Maje, but the two labels continued to coexist as part of the same group, SMCP. The style of the French label found favour and the high-end clothing was relatively affordable. Also, the brand's offering was continually updated, with accessories and trainers for example, so it corresponded to customers' expectations perfectly.
